FORT FAIRFIELD – Lois A. Nightingale, 90, wife of the late Paul Nightingale, died Saturday evening, Sept. 8, 2007, at a Presque Isle hospital after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 8, 1916, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Frank Delbert and Cassie (Carson) Haynes. She was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1934 and was married to Paul Nightingale, June 21, 1939. Lois was a member of Fort Fairfield Bethel Baptist Church for almost 80 years, where she was a member of the choir, missionary group and was secretary and treasurer of the Sunday school for 17 years. Lois was employed by several area businesses, including H.O. Perry and Son Insurance Co., Neal Powers Insurance Co., and SAD No. 20 hot lunch program, retiring at age 62. She was a charter member of Fort Fairfield Alumni Association and held the office of president for two years. Lois will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, who deeply enjoyed her family. Her hobbies included flower gardening, knitting and all handiwork. In addition to her parents, Lois was predeceased by her husband, Paul, April 19, 2000; and one sister, Phyllis Haynes Keegan. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Jr. and Cherryl Nightingale of Pollack Pines, Calif., Dale and Pamela Nightingale of Plainville, Conn., and Peter and Lynn Nightingale of Fort Fairfield; one nephew, Kempton Keegan of Alpha-retta, Ga.; one niece, Sharlene Keegan of Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Phelps officiating. Interment will be after at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately after the interment service.
