ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Lona M. Wagner, 94, passed away June 10, 2007, at the Peachtree Christian Hospice, Duluth, Ga. Lona was born on Valentine’s Day in 1913, in Washburn. She got her registered nurse license from the Presque Isle hospital nursing program, and later completed the anesthesia program at the University Hospitals of Cleveland in 1936. Lona married Dr. Allen Torrey during World War II, and they were stationed at several military bases while he was in the U.S. Air Corp. After the war, Lona and Allen set up their medical practice in Ellsworth. Lona took care of the office work and assisted Allen in the operating room, administering anesthesia. They loved golfing, boating and their two dogs, and had a good life until Allen’s death in 1970. After a few years, Lona met and married Paul Wagner and they moved to Bradenton, Fla. Paul and Lona were very active in their church, Harvest Temple. After Paul died, Lona did volunteer work for a Christian radio station while she lived in Clearwater, Fla. In 2003, Lona moved to Alpharetta, Ga., to live with her niece, Joyce Blankenship. In 2006, she moved to the Veranda, an assisted living facility for Alzheimer’s and Memory Care. Lona is survived by three nieces, two nephews and their families, Joyce Blankenship and her husband, Lowell, of Alpharetta, Ga., Carolyn Dearborn and her husband, Robert, of Charlotte, N.C., Maxine Holland of Brewer, Harry Magoon and his wife, Mary, of Lincoln and Ken Greenleaf and his wife, DeeDee, of Stoneham, Mass.
