FARMINGTON – Lora Hayden Byers, 72, of Anson Street, Farmington, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. Lora was born Oct. 25, 1932, in Caribou. Her parents were Levi and Goldie (Whiteneck) Hayden. Lora graduated from Caribou High School and Farmin-gton State Teachers College. She was a home economics teacher for 25 years, teaching in the Ashland, Caribou and SAD No. 9/Farmington schools. She was a member of several professional associations throughout her teaching career. Lora was a longtime member of the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church. She was active in the church, having served as church moderator and as a member of the Diaconate. Lora taught Sunday school, served on many committees, and sang in the choir. Lora enjoyed traveling with her husband Verne, including trips to Williamsburg, Va., Alaska, Europe and numerous other trips throughout the United States to visit family and friends. Her hobbies included reading, needlework and quilting. Lora will long be remembered for her many quiet acts of kindness and her humble and unselfish character. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Verne, of Farmington; four children, Charles Byers and his wife, Brenda, of Oxford, Ala., Elizabeth Byers Small and her husband, Thomas, of Chester, Patricia Urbanski and her husband, Thomas, of Cloquet, Minn.; and Julie Hutchin-son and her husband, Trent, of Pownal; five grandchildren, Abbie and Kallie Hutchinson of Maine, Ginger Davenport, David Webb and Amy McCollum, all of Alabama; five great-grandchildren, all of Alabama, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters; one brother, and their spouses, Marjorie Haines and her husband, Phil, Patricia DeMaria and her husband, John, Levi Hayden Jr., and his wife, Pierette. Public memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, 110 Academy St., Farmington. Following the services, all are welcome to attend a family reception in the church fellowship hall. Public committal services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at the New Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Street Annex, Augusta.
