ST. AGATHA – Louis Labrie, 88, died June 20, 2004, in St. Agatha in the arms of his family. He was born March 22, 1916, in Fort Kent, the son of Jean Baptiste Labrie and Marie (Vaillancourt) Labrie. He was a potato grower all his life and in his later years, although he was unable to perform physical labor, was quick to offer his wisdom, advice and encouragement to his son and grandsons who continue the family farm. He was active in town government, serving as St. Agatha selectmen from 1964-1967, serving as director of the St. Agatha Federal Credit Union from 1969-1995. He was active in the farming community, serving as director of Federal Land Bank and on various other committees. Louis was a very gentle and spiritual man, devoted to his church and involved in many of its activities. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Lorette (Boucher) who resides at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Frenchville. His devotion to her in her journey with Alzheimers remains an inspiration to his children and all who knew him. The center of his life revolved around his wife, his children and his farm. He and Lorette were blessed with six daughters and a son. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his treasures. They are Louise and Robert Lagassey of Bangor, and their children, Renae, Karen and John; Diane Voisine of Fort Kent and her son, Glenn; Daniel and Roberta Labrie of St. Agatha, and their sons, Keith, Duane and Aaron; Judy and Tom Deschaine of Presque Isle, and their children, Jarrod and Amy; Carol and Bruce Bartlett of Pittsfield, and their daughters, Julie and Emily; Terry and Dave Wagner of Marlborough, Conn., and their children, Devin and Marisa; and Elaine and Ken Albert of Oceanside, Calif. He enjoyed his visits with his great-grandchildren, Michael and Jack Riley (Renae); Danielle and Justin Rice (Karen); Sylvia and Jacob Labrie (Keith); Kyle, Carson and Paige Labrie (Duane); and Gavin Labrie (Aaron). He was predeceased by all his brothers and sisters, Herby and Albert Labrie, Cora Robbins, Cecile Ouellette, Emily Caron and Lily Voisine. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held 10 a.m. June 23, at St. Agatha Catholic Church, with his brother-in-law, the Rev. Gilman Boucher, as celebrant. Calling hours will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of service at the Michaud Funeral Home, St. Agatha. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Activity Fund at Ridgewood Estates of Madawaska, where Louis enjoyed the care and devotion of the staff and residents for the past year, the American Heart Association or the St. Agatha Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the Michaud’s Funeral Home.
