BREWER – Louise Emily Holyoke, 99, wife of the late Roger E. Holyoke, died peacefully Sept. 24, 2006, at her home. She was born May 7, 1907, in Brewer, the daughter of Frank M. and Bertha Mae (Hopkins) Adams. She was a graduate of Brewer High School, Class of 1926. Louise worked at Freese’s Department Store. Louise was a member of the John and Priscilla Alden Mayflower Group. She was a member of the North Brewer and Eddington Extension Group for many years and she served as clothing leader for Penobscot County for a while. She was also a former member of the Pamona Grange. Louise was an accomplished seamstress and she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tatting, rug braiding and doing jumbles. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she played the piano for the Sunday school for many years. Surviving are four children, Carolyn L. Lainsbury and her husband, Ivory, Vernon E. Holyoke and friend, Sandy Shubert, Ralph A. Holyoke and his wife, Peggy and William L. Holyoke and his wife, Louise; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Grace M. Newbert and her husband, Roland; three brothers, Linwood Adams and his wife, Margaret, Lawrence Adams and his wife, Anne and William Adams; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Winchester. Relatives and friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at Calvary Baptist Church, State Street, Brewer, with the Rev. Roger Davis, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends for refreshments downstairs in the church after the service. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Brewer.
