VERONA ISLAND – Louise M. (Nightingale) Hanscom, 72, passed away July 21, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Aug. 27, 1932, in Grindstone, the daughter of Clyde W. and Beatrice V. (Grey) Nightingale. Mrs. Hanscom worked at the Carl Warman Store on Verona Island for many years. Louise enjoyed her gardens, especially roses, she helped out at the AA meetings in Bucksport as well as the Senior Citizens Center. She was the caregiver of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they grew up. Louise was well- known for her wonderful Christmas parties since the 1970’s, and her avid Snowman’s Collection. Louise was married to the late Archie Hanscom for more than 50 years. She continued to honor the sacred vows of her beloved husband even after his passing in 1989. Louise was predeceased by her 11-month-old son, Clyde T. Hanscom in 1954; her brother, Leslie Nightingale in 1997; and her parents, Clyde and Beatrice Nightingale. Louise is survived by her son, Merton Hanscom Sr. and his wife, Debbie; six grandchildren, Ralph Hanscom, Amy and family of Florida, Merton Hanscom Jr. and family of Verona Island, Wayne Hanscom, Lisa and family of Verona Island, Adrian Hanscom and family of Bucksport, Adam Hanscom and family of Bangor, and Erica Hanscom of Bucksport; four stepgrandchildren, Larry, Stewart, Michelle, and Jason Carney, all of Bucksport; six sisters and brothers, Catherine Gomm of Verona Island, Althea Coleman of Verona Island, Dawn Ladd of Pittsfield, N.H., Leroy Nightingale of Wells, Clyde Nightingale Jr. of Boothbay Harbor, and Rodney Nightingale of Newburge, N.Y.; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Visitation for family and friends will be held noon Monday July 25, 2005, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Interment will be at the Riverview Cemetery in Bucksport.
