OLD TOWN – Louise Marquis, 94, died peacefully Feb. 23, 2004, at an Orono healthcare facility. She was born Sept. 22, 1909, in Greenbush, the daughter of Eddie and Nora (Sibley) Carroll. Louise was predeceased by her husband, Harold Marquis; her sons, Harold Marquis Jr. and John Marquis and his wife, Sandra; grandson, Mark Marquis; brothers, Linwood Carroll and his wife, Angie, and Winfield Carroll and his wife, Ruth; and sister, Arlene Gallant and her husband, Ernest. Louise is survived by her granddaughter, Beth Marquis of Toronto, Canada; and her great-grandsons, Jonathan and Nicholas; and a great-granddaughter, Brooke; several nieces and nephews. Louise graduated from Farmington State Teacher’s College in 1929. She taught grade school for nearly 50 years in Greenbush, Penobscot Nation, French Island, and Great Works. Louise prided her self on successfully teaching her students to read by way of the phonics method. Louise also wrote soap opera scripts for WABI Radio for several years during the 1930-40 era. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Parish, Old Town, with the Rev. Normand Richard celebrant. Immediately following the Mass all are invited to the Holy Family Parish Center for continued fellowship and light luncheon.
