BROOKLIN – Louise W. Rockwell died at her home Jan. 10, 2005. She was born May 5, 1923, at the Allen homestead in Brooklin, the daughter of John W. and Effie (Ryan) Allen. Louise graduated from Brooklin High School in 1941 and worked in various jobs in Brooklin until 1963. At that time, she and her family moved to Columbus, Ind., where she worked until returning to her home in Brooklin in 1974. Louise and her husband were awarded the 2001 Alumni Citizenship Award for the couple’s constant willingness to give of their time and possessions whether to neighbors in need or to the town in general. Louise was also well known for her work at the Brooklin General Store which she owned with her family from 1986 to 2003. Surviving in addition to her loving husband of 60 years, Wallace “Rocky”; are three children, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a son, Townsend A. Rockwell and his wife, Florence, of Columbus, Ind. and their two sons, Thomas and Ronnie, also of Columbus; daughter, Lorna Grant of Brooklin and her two sons, Tony Bryant of Blue Hill, Tim Bryant of Brooklin; daughter, Vauna Haza of Bangor and her three children, Stephanie Vetne of South Bend, Ind., Jeff Haza of Roseland, N.J., and Chris Haza of Alexandria, Va.; a brother, George L. Allen of North Brooklin and a special friend and neighbor, Sharron Ellis. She was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and John Allen; and one sister, Rachel Allen. Calling hours will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at Jordan-Fernald, 141 South St., Blue Hill. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at the Brooklin Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Lufkin officiating. Memorial contributions in Louise’s name may be made to the Brooklin Volunteer Fire Dept, PO Box 17, Brooklin, ME 04616 or First Baptist Church, PO Box 76, Brooklin, ME 04616.
