LISBON – Lucia Grover Lakeman, 80, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at the Lamp Alzheimer’s R.C.F., Lisbon. She was born Aug. 8, 1926, in Jonesport. Lucia loved sewing, quilting, craft making, cooking, reading, gardening and camping with Joe at Peaky Meadow. She became well-known for her pies and baked beans for the Union church suppers. Lucia worked blueberry raking, the sardine factory, picking out lobster meat at the wharf for D.W. Look, Inc. in South Addison for many years, lastly working for Worster Wreath. She was a member of the Eastern Harbor Grange, Jonesport American Legion Auxiliary, many years as president/treasurer for Eastern Harbor Cemetery. In the 1990s she helped out at the Mayhew Library in Addison and spent many hours at the transfer station sorting plastics/paper products in the early stages of recycling. During the 1990s she enjoyed traveling with her friend, Tina Ryan, on bus trips from Boston to Nashville. Lucia was the wife of the late Joseph Lakeman. They made their home in South Addison. Lucia was predeceased by her father, Issac Wordon Grover; mother, Edith Smith; brothers, Harley and Osmond Grover; sister, Alberta Yellope; son-in-law, David Monaghan; sister-in-law, Frances Grover. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Monaghan-Houghton and son-in-law, Bernard Houghton of Nobleboro; grandson, Christopher Monaghan of Nobleboro; grand-daughter, Jill Kerry Cooper of Cumberland-Foreside; sister, Agnes Grover of Machias. Box 819, Lewiston, ME 04243. Arrangements are under the care of Cremation Services of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
