FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Lucille Estelle Pelletier Doherty, 99, formerly of Burlington, Mass., Woburn, Mass., and Cambridge, Mass., died July 6, 2006, at Metrowest Medical Center, having spent the past two years at St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, Mass. Lucille was the beloved oldest daughter of Joseph A. and Elizabeth M. Pelletier of Van Buren. French was her native language and her childhood and youth coincided with the time before the Depression and after World War II when that town set a high standard in both culture and quality of faith. Matriculating at Burdett College, Lucille remained in the Boston area after graduation and worked in business until 1933, when she married Edward A. Doherty of Woburn, Mass., who passed away in 1983. For many years they and their five children lived in Cambridge, Mass., where Edward was deputy master of the Middlesex House of Correction and she was an active participant in the Somerville Women’s Catholic Club. Lucille Doherty was an astute businesswoman of the 1920s and 30s who sustained a passion for history, world news and the Red Sox to the end. She knew the scope of a century, its travails and hopes. Most of all, she lived up to the promises of “light” and “star” in her name, and gave all of us, five children, 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren and our friends, her insight, faithful love and sense of integrity. Lucille is survived by her son, Edward A. “Ned” Doherty and his wife, Colleen Donnelly Doherty, of Medford, Mass. and their children, Moira, Megan, Merrill, Edward and Thomas and their families; her son, Robert P. Doherty, and his wife, Carmel Keating Doherty, of Burlington, Mass. and their children, Melissa, Nicole, Kristen and Rebecca and their families; her daughter, Mary Jane Doherty of Regis College, Weston, Mass.; her daughter Carole Doherty DeMaio’s husband, James J. DeMaio and their children, Michelle, Mark, Matthew and Martha DeMaio and their families; her daughter Deedee Condra Bohlen’s children, Stephen, Julie, Douglas, Patrick and Amy Condra; Marshall Condra and William Bohlen; her youngest sister, Annette Pelletier Cronin of Carmel Terrace, Framingham, Mass.; and loving nieces and nephews who knew her as “Aunt Cille.” She was predeceased by her daughter, Carole Doherty DeMaio in 1989, and her daughter, Deedee Condra Bohlen in 1996. The family will conduct a vigil in her honor and welcome visitors 4-8 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Mass. A funeral Mass marking her entrance into eternal life will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, July 10, at St. Margaret’s Church, Winn Street, Burlington, Mass. Interment will be at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn, Mass.
