SKOWHEGAN – Lula Jane Stone French, 80, of Skowhegan, passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, at Redington-Fairview General Hospital after a brief illness with her family beside her. She was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Kingsbury, the daughter of Frank and Vesta (Bragg) Stone. Lula was educated in the Parkman schools. She married Melvin French, April 29, 1944, in Guilford. Lula enjoyed camping, fishing, sewing, knitting, gardening, and spending time with those she loved. She dearly loved her grandchildren and they dearly loved her. She will be sadly missed by both family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Melvin; her children, Gerald French and wife, Brenda, Gary French and companion, Mel Grant, all of Skowhegan, Ricky French and wife, Earlene, of Benton, Beverly Blais and husband, Andre, of Hartland, Harriet Clark and husband, William, and Brenda Vachon, all of Skowhegan; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grand-children, and three great-great- grandchildren; four sisters, Violet Knowles of Garland, Gloria and Althea of York, Evelyn of Willimantic; two brothers, Malcolm and Frank Stone, both of Monson. She was predeceased by one son, Wayne French; one grandson, Timothy Manson; one granddaughter, Dawn Manson; four brothers, Walter, Morris, Wilbur, and John; two sisters, Eve and Virginia; one daughter-in-law, Susan French. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Burial will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Southside Cemetery, Skowhegan.
