HANCOCK – Luther Frederick Springer, 81, of Hancock, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 20, 2005, after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born in Marlboro, Me., March 13, 1924, son of Howard A. and Grace Moffitt Springer. He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1941. He was married to his wife, Charleen Bragdon Springer on June 28, 1943. He was the transportation supervisor for the city of Ellsworth for 20 years and drove a school bus for the city of Ellsworth. Luther loved driving the school bus and especially enjoyed the children. He worked as a town selectman for the town of Hancock for several years. He was also a 52-year member of the David Hooper Masonic Lodge No. 201 of Sullivan. Luther was an avid golfer and a great Boston Red Sox Fan. He was happy to see them win the World Series. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. Luther loved his family and was a devoted husband. He spent many hours watching his children play sports and would often drive the school bus to games. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years and their children, Theodore H. Springer and his companion, Janice Lawson of San Angelo, Texas, John F. Springer of Hancock, James K. Springer and his wife, Cheryl of Raleigh, N.C., Jeffrey F. Springer and his companion, Patty of Hancock, Jacquelyn S. Ryan and her husband, Lewis of Windham. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, daughter, Charla in 1964; his two brothers and one sister. Friends are invited to call 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2005, at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Union Congregational Church UCC of Hancock with the Rev.
