FORT FAIRFIELD – Mrs. Melvina C. Rochford Coury, 82, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Caribou healthcare facility, following a brief illness. She was born March 19, 1923, at Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Winslow and Beulah Faye (Hitchcock) Brooker. Melvina attended local schools and was a communicant of the St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle No. 427, Fort Fairfield and the Sunshine Club, Fort Fairfield. She was married to Philip L. Rochford on Nov. 9, 1941, who predeceased her in 1974. She was later married to Joseph G. Coury on Jan. 14, 1984 who predeceased her in 1994. In addition to her parents and husbands, Melvina was predeceased by one daughter, Catherine B. Saucier in 2001; two brothers, Edward and Leonard Brooker; one granddaughter, Kimberly Dorr and Melvina’s stepparents, Omar Butler Sr. and Matilda Brooker. She is survived by four sons, James J. Rochford and his wife, Karen, of Houlton, Philip A. Rochford and his wife, Phyllis, Thomas F. Rochford and his wife, D’Ann, Garnet M. Rochford, all of Fort Fairfield; six daughters, Veronica J. Rochford, Rebecca A. Durost and her husband, Roland “Spike,” all of Presque Isle, Mary S. Hunter and her husband, Larry, of Mapleton, Teresa E. Doughty and her husband, Kevin of Sahuarita, Ariz., Sadie Anne Coury Bernard and her husband, Michael Mills of Gorham, Martha Coury Patterson and her husband, Neal, of Waterville; one brother, Omar Butler Jr. of Fort Fairfield; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be fondly remembered by special friends, Edith Kearney, Lela Ketch, Chris Leach and Rita Paradis. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2005, at the St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. Interment will follow at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A reception in memory of Mrs. Rochford will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 260 Main St., Fort Fairfield by the Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle No. 427, immediately following the interment service.
