FORT FAIRFIELD – Luther V. McLaughlin, 90, husband of Gloria M. McLaughlin, passed away Monday morning, June 2, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility, after an extended illness. He was born July 15, 1917, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Lewis S. and Maude P. (Burtchell) McLaughlin. He was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School and was married to Gloria M. Kenneson, March 15, 1969. Luther was employed as an electrician for many years, an officer with Fort Fairfield Police Department and served as a deputy with Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department, for 26 years, having served in law enforcement for more than 50 years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Fort Fairfield, a member of Trinity Masonic Lodge No. 130, Presque Isle, Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor, and served as a security guard at Shrine Circus, Presque Isle, for many years. In addition to his parents, Luther was predeceased by one son, David McLaughlin in 1965; three brothers, Ola, Donald and Ellis McLaughlin; three sisters, Gertrude L. Terry, Annabelle McLaughlin and Gwendolyn DeMerchant. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mrs. Gloria M. McLaughlin of Fort Fairfield; one son, Gary McLaughlin and his wife, Susan, of Rockville, Md.; one stepson, Ricky A. Sirois of Newburgh; one daughter, Joan Blaney and her husband, Robert, of Millville, New Brunswick; one stepdaughter, Carla Bommarito and her husband, Anthony, of Hamden; one sister, Eleanor Burtsell of Fort Fairfield; four grandchildren, Shane Theriault of Caribou, Kristy Picard of Millville, New Brunswick, Andrew McLaughlin of Washington, D.C., and Elizabeth McLaughlin Bowers of Toronto, Ontario; four stepgrandchildren, Andrea and Michael Bommarito of Hampden, Zachary Barnett of Winterport, Kylie Barnett of Newburgh and Damian Lovely of Fort Fairfield; four great-grandchildren, one great-stepgrandchild, several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a Masonic memorial service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the officers and members of Trinty Masonic Lodge No. 130, Presque Isle. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will take place immediately after the interment service at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
