WHITING – Mabel Ester McLaughlin, 94, passed away Nov. 7, 2005, at a Lubec nursing home. She was born June 23, 1911, in Lubec the daughter of Horace and Jenny (Patterson) Mahar. She attended Lubec schools, and was very gifted with musical talent. She would be very active singing at weddings, and in the church. She belonged to the Whiting Community Church, was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Lubec, and was a member of the Quoddy Light Chapter No. 94 Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed growing flowers and plants, and she especially enjoyed time spent with her family. She is survived by a daughter, Muriel and her husband, Dale Pottle; two daughters-in-law, Lillian McLaughlin and Esther McLaughlin; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest G. McLaughlin; two sons, Wendell M. McLaughlin and Royce E. McLaughlin; a great-granddaughter, Jesyca Joy Townsend; three sisters, Sadie Jordan, Dorothy Rauch, and Glennis Gilmore; and a brother, Nelland Mahar. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Whiting Community Church with Pastor Everett Farnsworth and her nephew, Pastor Francis Gilmore of Connecticut officiating.
