LUBEC – Madeline “Faye” Leighton, 79, passed away Jan. 24, 2007, at Oceanview Nursing Home, Lubec. She was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Lubec, the daughter of the late Vernard and Verna (Ramsdell) Leighton. Faye was educated in Lubec schools and obtained her nursing education at Massachusetts Memorial Hospital. She was employed at hospitals in Massachusetts, California, and eventually retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bangor. Faye was also employed at the Oceanview Nursing Home, Lubec. In her retirement, Faye spent many hours volunteering at the William Cohen Middle School library, Bangor. She also enjoyed traveling. Faye is survived by a sister, Ruth Skoog of Atlantic Rehab and Nursing Facility, 40 Palmer St., Calais; nephew, Robert Mahlman and his wife, Claudia, of Lubec, Deborah Dore of Houston and Dennis Skoog of Calais; cousins, Pauline Bailey of Lubec and Earland Sleight and wife, Ina, of Orono; and special friend, Betty Sleight of Milford. She was predeceased by two sisters, Thelma Mahlman and Gwendolyn Trecartin; and a nephew, Stephen Trecartin. Faye’s family thanks the Oceanview Nursing Home staff for their loving care that they gave to Faye. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the spring to be announced at the Split Hill Cemetery, Lubec. Arrangements are under the care of Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias.
