INDIAN ISLAND – Madeline Paul Francis, 90, passed away June 23, 2007, at Eunice Baumann Assisted Living. She was born July 17, 1916, in Indian Island Madeline was a world- known basket weaver. She was a soft spoken, humble, yet witty woman, who enjoyed scratch tickets and cribbage. Madeline was a devout communicant of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. She was predeceased by her parents; husbands, David Sapiel and Harold Francis; niece, Rebecca Bear; nephew, William Bear; and her siblings. Madeline is survived by her nephews, Michael Bear, Patrick Bear and his wife, Esther, and Clark Bear; nieces, Karen Hunter, Linda Czzowitz and Donna Pellerin; many cousins; and many dear friends, including Sparky Clark. Friends may call 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday, June 26, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Indian Island, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Farley, celebrant. Interment will be private at a later date. Donations my be made to the Eunice Baumann Home Activities Fund, 2 Sara Springs Lane, Indian Island, ME 04468.
