BUCKSPORT – Madeline Virginia (Wescott) Smith, 85, died July 15, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. She was born May 25, 1921, in Smithfield, daughter of Rex I. and Edith L. (Markham) Wescott and was lovingly raised by Rex and Caroline Wescott, after her mother’s death, when Madeline was an infant. She was a member of the Franklin Street United Methodist Church, Bucksport for more than 60 years. She was a member and past worthy matron of the Felicity Chapter Order of Easter Star No. 195, Bucksport and past mother advisor of the Rainbow Girls, Bucksport. She enjoyed knitting, baking wedding and birthday cakes for family, traveling and taking care of her home. Madeline is survived by two daughters, Edith Gray and her husband, Gaylen, of Bucksport and Sandra Gray and her husband, Durwood, of East Machias; three special grandchildren, Clifford Gray of Orland, Barbara Hogan of Bucksport and Edward Gray of East Machias; four special great-grandchildren, Amanda, Jared, James and Jeremy; sister, Catherine Wentworth; sisters-in-law, Margaret Wescott and Caroline Arace; several nieces, nephews; and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford L. Smith in 1999; two grandchildren, Frederick Gray and Theodore Gray; two brothers, Earle Wescott and William Wescott; and a brother-in-law, William Wentworth. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport. Donations in her memory may be made to the Franklin Street. United Methodist Church, P.O.
