OLD TOWN – Madelyn (Wright) Young, 90, passed away May 20, 2007, at Penobscot Valley Hospital. She was born Sept 10, 1916, in Cutler, the daughter of Merritt and Ora (Ramsdell) Wright. Madelyn married Ralph Young, Dec 23, 1940. She worked at Penobscot Shoe, Old Town Shoe and the Old Town Woolen Mill. She was a member of the Grange No. 522 and the Old Town Senior Citizens. Madelyn served as a crossing guard in Stillwater for 10 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph in 2000; four sisters, Beulah, Marie, Helen and Eleanor; and brother, Harvard. She is survived by special brother-in-law, Damon Young and his wife, Sharon; brother-in-law, Veral Young; sister-in-law, Ethelyn Gerrish and her husband, Fred; several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Faith Lincoln and her husband, Gerry. Madelyn’s family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at Cummings Residential Care for their years of excellent care. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Stevens officiating. Interment will be private. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
