SANTE FE, N.M. – Madge Bird Muir Bost died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at her home in Santa Fe, N.M. She was born Dec. 9, 1921 in Chicago, Ill. She was predeceased by her parents, Duncan Angus and Flora Cameron Muir; by her sister, Doris; and brother, George Muir. Madge’s life was founded on faith, hope and charity. She was an optimist and a liberal in the very best sense of the word. With degrees from Northwestern University and the University of Maine, Madge studied to be a teacher of English Literature and practiced her profession for several years. The treasures of her life, however, were her children that she bore and lovingly nurtured. In leaving she epitomized the philosophy of Shakespeare’s Hamlet that “the readiness is all.” Her readiness was never more apparent than in the thoughts she conveyed to her daughter just days before passing. “I am going to go somewhere where the rest of the family has never been,” she said, “and I am very excited, I’m going to be taking a trip into the great beyond. I’m ready to go.” An elegant lady of amazing grace – Madge Bost. Survived by her husband of 55 years, James Stephen Bost; and her children, Stephen (Amanda) of Brewer; and grandchildren, Stuart and Rowan; John (Joanna) Roth of Fairbanks, Alaska, Margaret of Santa Fe, N.M., and Douglas (Carolyn) of New York, N.Y. A private family memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be directed to The Hospice Center of Santa Fe, 1400 Chama Ave., Santa Fe, NM 87505.
