BROOKLIN – Mahlon L. Cater, 87, went to be with his Savior, Nov. 26, 2003, at a Penobscot health care facility. He was born Nov. 27, 1916, in West Brooklin, a son of Roy M. and Harriet L. (Bridges) Carter. Mahlon was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Ellsworth where he had sung in the choir, taught Sunday School, was a junior deacon as well as a senior deacon for 23 years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Madeline (Cousins) Carter; two daughters, June Allen and her husband, Isaac, of Sedgwick and Donna Treadwell and her husband, Allen, of Winterport; one brother, Russell Carter and his wife, Agnes, of Brooklin; seven grandchildren, Donna Mionis, Lisa Sturtevant, Daniel Lord, Miriam Hawley, Benjamin, James and Andrew Allen; 11 1/2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call 5:30-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at the Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Ellsworth, with the Rev. Barry Blackstone officiating. Interment will be in the Brooklin Cemetery, Brooklin. Memorial donations in Mahlon’s memory may be made to the Emmanuel Baptish Church, 50 School St., Ellsworth 04605, or to the charity of one’s choice.
