VAN BUREN – Majella G. Parent, 81, died April 29, 2004, at Van Buren. He was born Oct. 14, 1922, in St. Leonard, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Louis and Louise (Ouellette) Parent. Mr. Parent was employed by several area potato growers for many years and also worked as a woodcutter for a number of years. He was a communicant of St Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church in Van Buren as well as St. Gerard- Mt. Carmel Parish in Grand Isle. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Marge Parent of Lille; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Angela and John Tardif of Davenport, Fla., Liana Montague of Standish, Arlene and Steve Grivois of Grand Isle, Thelma and Melvin Fortin of Pooler, Ga., and Velma and Gordon Grivois of Van Buren; one sister, Jeanne Desjardins of Grand Falls, New Brunswick; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 12 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at the St. Gerard-Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Grand Isle with Msgr. Leopold Nicknair, officiating. Interment will be later in the spring at the Grand Riviere Cemetery.
