DOVER-FOXCROFT – Malcolm “Mac” Macomber, 78, died June 23, 2005, at his residence. He was born March 29, 1927, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Wayne C. and Gertrude (Farmer) Macomber. Mac served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 913 field Artillery in Italy. He was service manager for McDonald Ford Sales in Dover from 1947-1965. In 1966, he opened Macomber’s Garage until his retirement in 1987. Mac continued to be active working in his garage at home, maintaining and repairing equipment for the Foxcroft Golf Course. He thoroughly enjoyed their home in Florida, where they were surrounded by many friends. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Bangor and Englewood, Fla. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Winifred, of Dover-Foxcroft; two children, Susan Leathers, of Old Town, and Karen (Burns) Cole of Portland; three special grandchildren, Dana “DJ” Leathers of Stetson, Crystal Leathers of Old Town, Derek Cole of Dover-Foxcroft; six grandchildren, Jordan, Miranda, Madison, Dakota, Emma-Jean, and Alexis. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a step-son, Thomas Burns; two brothers, Paul and Lawrence. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Dover-Foxcroft, with the Rev. Neil Castonguay, officiating. Interment will be in Dover Cemetery.
