MATTAWAMKEAG – Margaret J. Markie, 92, wife of the late George Markie Sr., went home to be with the Lord Nov. 19, 2006. She was born May 31, 1914, in Sherman Station, the daughter of Harry and Grace (Bragg) Leavitt. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. She stayed in her own home and drove her car up until age 91. Margaret loved the Lord and gospel music. She played the piano at church for many years. She also loved cats. She is survived by five sons, Leon Markie Sr., Harry Markie and his wife, Patricia, George Markie Jr. and his wife, Donna, all of Mattawamkeag, Darrell Markie and his wife, Barbara, of Lincoln and Bryant Markie Sr. and his wife, Jeanne, of Mattawamkeag; one daughter, Linda Markie of Old Orchard Beach; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grand-children. She will be sadly missed by a special niece, Theresa Peters and her husband, Dick; and a special friend, Cressa Garland. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Gary; a grandson, Billy; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn, as well as two sisters and five brothers. Visitation will be for the family only. A graveside service will be held noon Tuesday at Mattawamkeag Cemetery with the Rev. Steve McNally officiating.
