HOULTON – Margaret McGillicuddy Welton, 88, died April 19, 2008, at her residence. She was born Nov. 4, 1919, in Houlton, the daughter of James W. and Elva (Victory) McGillicuddy. Margaret was a communicant of Saint Mary of the Visitation Church and a member of Houlton American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, where she was the eldest and longest living member. Throughout her adult life, Margaret worked for several area florist and greenhouse companies and was a longtime employee for the Edwin Vail family. She is survived by her children, Kenneth Welton and his wife, Sue, of New Gloucester, Mary Garnier and her husband, Tom, of West Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Kenneth Welton Jr., Michelle Welton and Mike Reid, and their mother, Jeannie Welton; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Craine and her husband, Edmund, of Presque Isle, and Ruth Rau of Phoenix; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin E. Welton; four brothers, John, Maurice, Gerald and Donald McGillicuddy; and a sister, Alice O’Donnell. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Dunn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church. Interment will take place at Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta.
