TURNER – Marguerite R. “Peggy” Dowe, 83, of North Parish Road, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at the Hospice House, Auburn. Born Oct. 1, 1924, in Westbrook, she was the daughter of Willard and Harriett Laverty Googins. Educated in Westbrook schools, she graduated from Westbrook High School, and then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maine at Orono. While studying at Orono, she became a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. On Jan. 3, 1948, she married Paul J. Dowe Sr., and they made their home in Turner. Mr. Dowe passed away April 13, 2004. After her children were of school age, Peggy went back to school herself, this time as a teacher, and she taught elementary school in the Turner school system for many years. She had a lifelong love of the piano, both as a player and as a teacher, and also enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, knitting and gardening. She was a corporator/trustee of Turner Public Library since 1960 and also belonged to the S & B Sewing Club. Survivors include a son, Paul James Dowe Jr. and wife, Susan, of Turner; two daughters, Ann Fairchild and husband, Bill, of Monmouth, and Mary Turcotte and husband, Christopher, of Auburn; a sister, Jean Johnson of Gorham; a niece, Candy Haskell and husband, Richard, of Deer Isle; five grandchildren, Caitlin Dowe-Sandes and husband, Samuel, Erika Fitzgerald and husband, Matthew, Paul J. “PJ” Dowe III, Thomas P. “Tip” Fairchild, and Samantha Erin Fairchild; and two great-grandchildren, Sadie and Maddox Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Turner Center Universalist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice Foundation, P.O.
