BANGOR – Marguerite W. Mabee, 96, died Jan. 17, 2007, at her home, after a long illness. She was born March 26, 1910, in Clyde, N.Y., the daughter of Harvey A. Waite and Kathyrne (Haugh) Waite. Marguerite graduated from Rochester University in 1931, with a degree in nursing. On Sept. 14, 1931, she married Dr. James R. Mabee of Patterson, N.J., and after a brief wedding trip, they made Bangor their permanent home. Marguerite’s husband, Dr. Mabee, was an avid outdoorsman and prominent oral surgeon in the Bangor area prior to his death in 1987. Throughout her life, Marguerite remained very civic minded and was a frequent volunteer at local hospitals. She was an active 50-year and charter member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter B Maine, serving as president from 1968 to 1970. In 1997, the Marguerite Mabee Scholarship PEO Chapter B Maine was established in her honor by her family. Marguerite was a member of All Souls Congregational Church. She was well known as a very kind and caring person and will be greatly missed by her extended family and friends. Marguerite was predeceased by her husband, Dr. James R. Mabee in 1987; her daughter, Marguerite “Peg” Mabee in 1986. She is survived by her son, Dr. John W. Mabee of Bucksport; her granddaughter, Jennifer (Mabee) Brinkley and husband, William W. Brinkley Jr., of Watertown, Mass.; her grandson, James Robert Mabee III and his wife, Leslie (Winchester) Mabee, of Bangor; five great-grand-children, Emelia and Max Brinkley and Adella, Ashton and Nolan Mabee. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the All Souls Congregational Church, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher, officiating. There will be a private family service at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.
