CAMDEN – Marian Appleton Lawrence, 67, of Camden and a longtime resident of Trescott, died April 24, 2007, at her home after a brief illness. A strong conservationist, she supported several local environmental causes, and was a founding member of the Quoddy Regional Land Trust. In the 1970s, she was an active opponent of an oil refinery in Eastport and the aerial spraying of pesticides. Her creative accomplishments included a children’s story, drawings and sketches, paintings, writing, basket weaving and carpentry. She maintained a small organic farm and extensive gardens on Straight Bay, Lubec. She was a loving and generous member of the community. Born in Boston, the daughter of Bishop Frederic Cunningham and Katharine Wylie Lawrence, she grew up in Brookline, Mass., and attended the Winsor School and Bradford Junior College. She married Henry A. Stone, with whom she had two children, Frederic and Molly. They divorced and she later married Dallas “Doc” Hodgins; their marriage ended in 1984. She leaves her two children, Frederic L. Stone and his wife, Inge M., of Medfield, Mass., and Molly B. Stone of Camden; four grandchildren, Franciska and Margaret Stone and Willow and Tucker Grinnell; and siblings, Katharine Lawrence, Margaret L. Drinker, Frederic C. Lawrence and Peter W. Lawrence.
