PRESQUE ISLE – Marie (Bishop) Browning, 86, died Jan. 3, 2008, at Mars Hill Nursing Home. She was born June 28, 1921, in River de Chute, New Brunswick, the daughter of Samuel and Charlotte Bishop. Marie graduated from Perth High School and studied nursing in St. John. She and her husband, Gerald, moved to Presque Isle in 1957. In addition to raising their family, Gerald and Marie purchased the Sanitarium with Carl and Jean Litsch, converting it to an apartment complex and built and ran the Bonanza restaurant with Junior and Jackie Haines. Along with looking after 60 plus apartments, Marie also kept the books for the family’s plumbing and heating business. She was a wonderful cook and a fond family memory is of large glass jars full of molasses doughnuts. Marie loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. The most important thing in Marie’s life was family. She cherished time spent with her family, relatives and friends. Marie is survived by three daughters, Joyce Saucier of Presque Isle, Judith Littler and her husband, William, of Rutland, Vt., and Constance Browning Jones and her husband, Robert, of Portland; a son, Gary and his wife, Patricia, of Mapleton; three grandchildren, Scott Saucier of Nashua, N.H., Jennifer Littler Pillon and her husband, Jason, of Rutland, Vt., and Jody Littler of Rutland, Vt.; one great-grandson, Hayden Pillon of Rutland, Vt.; two sisters, Bea Terlecki of Toronto and Carolyn King of Halifax; and two special sisters-in-law, Dawn Bishop of Perth-Andover and Jeanne Bishop of Truro. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Helen Miller of Perth-Andover. Marie was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Gerald Browning; a grandson, Jeffrey Gerald Littler; three brothers, Archie, Donald and Cameron Bishop; and two sisters-in-law, Vivienne Bishop and Margaret Lockhart.
