LINCOLN – Marie Joyce Edwards, 78, passed away peacefully Oct. 22, 2006, surrounded by her family, at her home after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 11, 1928, in Lincoln, the daughter of William and Doris (Tinkham) Whitten. On Oct. 11, 1946, she married Ariel Edwards. She and Ariel lived all their lives in Lincoln and raised their family of eight children. Joyce was active in the Lincoln United Methodist Church, TOPS and the VFW Auxiliary. She was well known for her yeast bread and rolls, a recipe handed down from her mother. Joyce is survived and missed by her children and their spouses, Margaret and Alfred Morrill, Ann and Robert Morrill, Alan and Gloria Edwards, Dana and Leslie Edwards, David Edwards, Norma and Dwight Priest, Karen and Blaine Batchelder; grandchildren, Libby and Tim Worster, Chuck Morrill, Amy Morrill, Jacob and Vicky Morrill, Emily Morrill and fiance, Jason Leighton, Andy and Abby Edwards, William Edwards, Jeremy and Amy Edwards, Jason Edwards, Angelique and Cory McCreavy, Justin Edwards, Ryan and Cecelia Priest, Aaron Priest and fiance, Emily Sprague and Blaine and Bradleigh Batchelder. She also leaves several great-grandchildren, with three more on the way this year. She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Sonya and Richard Savage; sisters-in-law, Ruth Whitten, Marion Edwards and Meredith Whalen; many nieces and nephews. Also missing her are many special friends including, Lucille Folster, who has been like an extra daughter to Joyce. Norma Priest took special care of her mother, which allowed her to be at home with her family and loved ones. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Ariel; a sister, Jeanette Bradbury; a brother, Randolph Whitten; a son, Robert. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Lincoln, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Young and the Rev. Clark Osborn officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Bryce Priest Memorial Foundation at the Lincoln United Methodist Church.
