BANGOR – Marie Laura Cormier, 83, wife of the late Emile G. Cormier, died Oct. 6, 2006, at her home. She was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Fort Kent, the daughter of Thomas J. and Lucie (Lagasse) Charette. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. After retiring with more than 25 years in retail sales, Marie loved playing cribbage, especially with sister-in-law, Lucille Geaghan. She had the reputation of being an unbeatable cribbage pegger. She also had a passion for reading and playing Yahtzee with the family. “Me-mere,” as she was often called by her grandchildren, prepared incredible holiday meals with all the trimmings. Everyone looked forward to visits with Marie knowing that there would always be a jar full of home baked cookies and her famous chocolate zucchini cake. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who took pride in her family and their achievements. She was also a compassionate and caring woman who gladly supported those less fortunate or in need. Her family and friends witnessed great courage and concern for those all around her up to the moment of her passing. She was a gift in the lives of many and will truly be missed. She is survived by three children, Theresa M. Cormier and companion, Michael Paprocki, of Norwich, Conn., Collette A. Williams and husband, Martin “Marty,” of Barrington, R.I., and Paul Cormier and wife, Sandra “Sandy,” of Bangor; three sisters, Yvonne St. Germain of Ellington, Conn., Rita Dawson of Cornington, Ohio, and Annette Williams of Hartford, Conn.; one brother, Paul Charette of East Hartford, Conn.; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Geaghan and Virginia Charette; four grandchildren, James and Thomas Dixon, Jacques Williams and Michelle Cormier and companion, David Jamieson; two great-grandchildren, Isabelle Howe and Christian Jamieson; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, presiding. Interment will be held after the service at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to CancerCare of Maine, 417 State St., Bangor, ME 04401 or Hospice of Eastern Maine, 885 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401.
