BAILEYVILLE – Marie passed onto a better life Sept. 6, 2007, at a Bangor hospital, after a brief illness. Our mother was born July 20, 1922, in Three Rivers, Quebec. When asked if she was French Canadian, she would immediately say, “No.” Our mother was very involved in life. She loved her family, others’ children and pets, though not always in that order. She remained a child at heart, willing to play with the great-grandchildren, and blowing bubbles. She was quick to tell jokes, and share the latest emails with all. Mom was a devote Catholic, thus involved in all aspects of the church since childhood. She was an avid card player. She loved spending hours on her computer playing various games with people all over the world. One young lady actually had the nerve to tell mom, “I can’t play with you anymore as you are too slow.” We have never known our mother to be too slow. She was once a great bowler. She often bragged of “My 95 average.” She brought joy to many little girls by presenting them with the beautiful Barbie ensembles which she knit. Mom’s love for reading gave her a place to relax and escape from her daily concerns. Mom was proud of her business college degree, and working as a certified nurses aide at Calais Regional Hospital for many years. Mom was quite concerned whether or not we would “lay or lie” her remains to rest. Mom was predeceased by our father, Joseph A. Chabak, with whom she had a wonderful life. It was not always easy, but she was a trooper and “hung tough.” Mom was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Helen Ross of Miltown, New Brunswick; brothers, Frances and David; twin sister, Mary; and a daughter, Ellen. Mom is survived by daughters, Madeline Chabak Cilley and Catherine A. Chabak Petros and her husband, John; grandchildren Christina, Lynell, Michael, Mark and Martin, and seven great-grandchildren. We will be having a celebration of her life 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at St. James Catholic Church, Baileyville. Interment will be after the celebration at Baileyville Cemetery. There will be a reception immediately after at St. James Catholic Church hall. Our mother has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to Maine CancerCare, EMMC, 417 State St., Bangor, ME 04401.
