MARILYN A. COOMBS WINTER HARBOR – Marilyn A. Coombs, 80, passed away surrounded by family May 24, 2004. Born in West Enfield, April 7, 1924, the daughter of Clarence and Avis (Boyington) Buckley. Marilyn graduated from Sterns High School in 1941, and attended the University of Maine, Orono. She was branch manager of the Liberty National Bank for nearly 20 years. After retirement she worked as manager of Winter Harbor Housing Development Corporation and as a bookkeeper for the Winter Harbor Foodservice. She devoted a lot of time to public service. She served as town clerk in Howland and in Winter Harbor. She was also a member of the Winter Harbor School Board and Winter Harbor School Trustees. She was a member and held offices of the Acadian Community Woman’s Club, Winter Harbor Chamber of Commerce, Winter Harbor Parent Teacher Organization and was a member of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah’s. For five years before becoming ill she was head librarian at the Winter Harbor Public Library. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Carol Michaud and her husband, Ray; her dear daughter-in-law, Cornelia Church and her husband, Dale; five adored grandchildren, Angela Hardy and her husband, Joshua, of Ellsworth, Jessica Michaud of Portsmouth, N.H., Jeremy Coombs and his wife, Jessica, who are stationed in Tokyo, Japan, Amanda Coombs of Hampden, and Ryan Church of Gouldsboro. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Braden Coombs, also of Tokyo, Japan. Survivors also include two brothers, Robert Buckley and his wife, Betty, of Tampa, Fla., and Donald Buckley and his wife, Caroline, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Dave Remick of Syracuse, N.Y.; two cousins, Arlene and Weldon Wakefield of Pittsfield, Elwood and Bette Wakefield of Canton, Ohio; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Colby; her parents; son, Dennis; and sister, Muriel Remick of Syracuse, N.Y. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the winter Harbor Public Library or to the Acadian Community Woman’s Club, Winter Harbor, ME 04693.
