GOULDSBORO – Lena A. Noonan, 84, mother, grammie and great-grammie, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Dec. 30, 1919, in Milbridge, the daughter of Hollis and Hannah (Strout) Leighton. She took care of children when she came to Prospect Harbor at the age of 16. She cleaned houses for people including Prospect Harbor Lighthouse at one time. She worked at Sears Roebuck in earlier years in Massachusetts with her good friend of more than 50 years, Mary Sheris. Lena worked with her husband in their used car and construction business for 29 years. She traveled to Michigan many times with her husband for used cars. She traveled many miles to Bangor for the business daily. She liked her flower gardens and plants. She liked planting her vegetable and rhubarb gardens. She loved collecting stuffed animals that now cover her couch and chairs. Lena helped the Gouldsboro Fire Department with cooking food and helping on their yard sales. She picked a lot of blueberries in her lifetime. She loved to cook fudge, pies, cakes and cookies for everyone. She did a lot of embroidery for gifts, making homemade quilts and search a word puzzles. She and her sister, Maggie, enjoyed their yard sales in the summer. They didn’t miss very many. She took a lot of pictures of everything she saw to remember every moment. She also loved her two collie dogs, Skip and Chase and her two cats, Terry and Tom. Lena loved everyone she met, had a great sense of humor, and made friends easily. She enjoyed making necklaces, key chains and bracelets, and giving them away to people who enjoyed her art. She made many friends during the short time she was at Sonogee Rehab. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Arvid Bernard Noonan on July 15, 1980; two sisters, Marguerite Kelley and Teresa. She is survived by two brothers, Alton Leighton and his wife, Ruth, of Gouldsboro Point, Sherwood Leighton and his wife, Audrey, of Boothbay; a sister, Velma Workman and her husband, Warren, of Southwest Harbor; three children, Lena Mae Dudley and her husband, Dick, Linda Brooks and her husband, Paul, Betty Bradford and her husband, Ed; four grandchildren, Quentin Brooks, Tammy Crawford, and Katie and Kristy Dudley; three great-grand-children, Cassandra and Alexander Crawford and Adam Inman; a sister-in-law, Hope Bunker; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lena will also be missed by some special friends, Annie Strout, the people from the Mary Dow Center and Dr. Starie Seay. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Prospect Harbor Cemetery, with the Rev. Owen Beal officiating. Arrangements are by Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Milbridge.
