ROCKLAND – Marion G. Miller, 96, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at her home. Born Nov. 1, 1909, in Augusta, she was the daughter of Robert and Rose Levine Goldberg. Educated in the Augusta area, she was a 1927 graduate of Cony High School. After her graduation, Mrs. Miller was employed at the Secretary of State office, where she was head clerk of the election division. On Feb. 10, 1935, she married Lawrence Miller in Augusta. The couple made their home at his family’s homestead in Rockland. Mr. Miller died Sept. 22, 1984. In her early years in Rockland, she was involved in Girl Scouts and the PTA, serving as the president for three years. Mrs. Miller became a very active member of the Knox Hospital Auxiliary in 1936 and became the president of that organization. She also helped establish the gift shop at the Knox Hospital. She continued her interest in the auxiliary with Penobscot Bay Medical Center and volunteered at the gift shop there for 25 years. She also was a member of the Rockland Public Library Advisory Board for 25 years. In 1992, the Rockland city council presented Mrs. Miller with a plaque in recognition of her service. Another of Mrs. Miller’s favorite projects was the Rockland Home for Aged Women, now known as the Talbot Home. She became a board member soon after she moved to Rockland and retired from that board 60 years later. Mrs. Miller was actively interested in several other local organizations, such as the Friends of Rockland Public Library, Kno-Wal-Lin Auxiliary, Adas Yoshuron Synagogue, and the Farnsworth Art Museum. She is survived by two children, Beth Kettell and her husband, Jack, of Brookline, Mass., and Naples, Fla., Edward Miller and his wife, Carol, of Rockland; two grandchildren, Diane Dondershine and her husband, Scott, of Vienna, Va., and Karen Miller of New York City; one brother, Paul Goldberg of Stuart, Fla.; as well as two great-grandchildren, Alex and Zachary Dondershine of Vienna, Va. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at Synagogue Adas Yoshuron, 50 Willow St., Rockland, with Rabbi Amita Jarmon officiating.
