EDMUNDS – Marion (Hood) Brown, 69, passed away April 19, 2004, at her home on Bunker Hill in Edmunds, with her husband, Jack, of nearly 50 years, at her side. She left this world the same way she entered it, surrounded by the love of family. Marion was born Oct. 16, 1934, in Lubec, the first born child of Ralph and Phyllis Hood. Their family was rich with life’s greatest gifts; love and laughter. After graduating from Lubec High School in 1953, she traveled to Portland with her girlfriend Mary to experience life in the city. One of her favorite jobs was working in a clothespin factory. Marion returned to Lubec and married Jack, Dec. 4, 1954, in Dennysville. A year later, their only child was born. Ricky was Marion’s greatest pride. She was honored by the gift of a son and his devotion, love, and dedication to his parents gave her great joy. Marion’s work life was filled with fun as was her personal life. She enjoyed working at Lawrence’s Sardine Factory in Lubec, transporting her friends from Dennysville in the old “Woody.” In 1969, she went to work at Edmunds school as a teacher aide. She loved her students and her co-workers. She retired after 30 years of a very satisfying career. In 1992, Marion and Jack opened “Happy Landings” restaurant in Eastport. This new adventure was such fun for Marion making new friends with the hundreds of customers that came and went, and with the girls that worked for her, Valerie, Bonnie, Sherrie, Ellen, Doreen and Amy. Her daily visit from the “coffee gang” usually brought a little joke and always a laugh. Marion enjoyed many things; knitting, ceramics, basket-weaving, but nothing gave her more pleasure than gliding across the dance floor with Jack. Whether square dancing all over Washington County or waltzing to an old country and western tune, Marion and Jack danced as they lived, in-step. Marion was the dearly-loved oldest sister of Marge, Gene, Sandra and Gary. Their lives have remained intertwined all these years and will be greatly missed by them. She will be missed by special friends Shirley and Carolyn. Marion was predeceased by her parents; and her beloved brother, Gene. She is survived by and greatly missed by her husband Jack; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Susan Brown; granddaughter and family, Heidi, Chris, Chandler, and Cameryn; granddaughter and family, Heather, Wes, Cole, Chase, and Christian; Sisters, Marge and husband, Osborne, Sandra and husband, Barney; brother, Gary. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, whom remember her as “Aunt Mim.” Friends may call 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at the Flagg Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Dennysville Congregational Church, with Rev. Windhorst officiating, interment in the Dennysville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Foundation or to the Parish Hall Fund for the Dennysville Congregational Church, care of Richard Hobart, Edmunds.
