PRESQUE ISLE – Rodney C. Hilt, 89, died Tuesday April 20, 2004, at a Presque Isle healthcare fac-ility. He was born Jan. 9, 1915, in Presque Isle, the son of Frank and Lillian (Hilt) Hilt. Rodney grew up and attended Presque Isle schools and was active in track. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre serving two years in Italy. He was employed at Farrar Brown Auto Parts for 36 years. Rodney was a 50-year member of the Grant Memorial Methodist Church where he served as the financial secretary for many years, and was a 20-year member of the Presque Isle Volunteer Fire Dept. attaining the rank of Captain. He was an avid stamp collector. He is survived by his wife Edna (Littlefield) Hilt; a son, Robert Hilt and his wife, Karen, all of Presque Isle; a brother Raymond Hilt and his wife, Bette, of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Mildred Whitney of Brunswick, and Marjorie Vizza of Yonkers, N.Y.; Grandchildren, Melissa Dyer and her husband, Brent and great- granddaughter, Elizabeth, and Jason Giggie; a special niece, Kathy Goodness and her husband, Rick, and son, Joshua of Brewer; a brother-in-law, Bennie Littlefield of Chapman; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Granville, Charles and his wife, Helen; two brothers-in-law, Frank Vizza and Sumner Whitney. Relatives and friends may call 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the Grant Memorial Methodist Church, Fleetwood Street, Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Thomas Blackstone officiating. Interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery Presque Isle. Donations may be in memory of Rodney Hilt to the Grant Memorial Methodist Church or to the Presque Isle Paid Call Fire Dept. care of Dave Lovely, 43 North St. Suite A, Presque Isle, ME. 04769.
