BELMONT – Marion Arlene Varney, 72, died March 9, 2005, at her residence in Belmont. Born Jan. 20, 1933, in Searsmont, she was the daughter of Charles and Clara (Walker) Lane Jr. Marion attended Rockport schools and graduated from Rockport High School in 1951. On June 19, 1951 she was married to Howard “Bud” Varney. Marion was a member of the Eastern Star and the extension, both of Rockport. She had been a Girl Scout leader and had operated her own ceramic business in Rockport. She loved to play Beano and cards. She was an avid collector of Beanie Babies and dolls. In 1997 she and Bud moved to Belmont. Marion loved nature and especially the chipmunks, birds and wild turkeys near her home. She enjoyed her summers at the cottage on Norton Pond where she taught all of the neighborhood children to water ski. Marion was predeceased by her parents and her dear friend, Carolyn Bideau. She is survived by her husband, Howard “Bud” Varney of Belmont; three children, Arlene Harriman and husband, Tracy, of Lincolnville, Susan Willey of Owls Head, Esther Davies and husband, Chris, of New Hampshire; a special nephew, Richard Eaton Jr. of Rockland; seven grandchildren, Tracy Clukey, Mrs. Michael “Laurie” Haynes, Chad Harriman, Mrs. Bruce “Debbie” Anderson, Jeremy Willey, Rhiannon Davies, Megan Davies; three great-grandchildren, John Michael Haynes, Colby Wiley, Tasha Anderson; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 11 a.m. Friday March 11, 2005, at the Rackliffe Funeral Home, 54 Church St., Belfast. Burial will follow at the family lot in the Glen Cove Cemetery in Rockport.
