NORTHPORT – Marjorie Ann Cummings, 64, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 28, 2005. She was born Jan. 18, 1941, in Somerville, Mass., the daughter of the late Charles and Katherine (Shields) McCarte. She was raised in Everett, Mass., and was a 1959 graduate of Everett High School. In 1972, she and her husband, James Cummings and their three children, relocated from North Reading, Mass. to Belfast. Here she served as a secretary for MSAD No. 34 before retiring last year from the Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast. Highly energetic, Margie enjoyed cooking, was an excellent seamstress and an exceptional gardener who had a natural eye for color, form and texture. She and her husband were also long-time volunteers, raising five guide dogs for The Guiding Eyes for the Blind Foundation of America. Her greatest joy, however, was caring for and enjoying her family and friends. Her zest for life and caring nature were no more apparent than when hosting a special occasion such as a birthday, holiday or anniversary. Margie had a unique talent for creating a festive environment to make any occasion that much more special. Her warmth, love and compassion were extraordinary. She had a strong Catholic faith, living her life with a gentle, kind, and loving and spiritual nature. She was never heard to speak ill of anyone and, hence, was loved by all. Margie is survived by her husband of 43 years, James Cummings of Northport; daughter, Cheryl Cummings of Belfast, and her children, Brianna Cummings and fianc?, Nathaniel Bernier and their son, Jackson, Taylor and Jenny Cummings, and Wilder Magruder; son, Michael Cummings and wife, Roxanne, and their children, Brittney, Makayla, Madison and Breann; and son, Stephen Cummings and partner, Pam Elwell, and their children, Stephen Jr., Jade and Joey; a brother, Edward McCarte of Saugus, Mass.; and a sister, Mary Beardsley of Concord, Mass. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Court Street, Belfast. Memorial donations may be made to The Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Canine Development Center, 361 Route 164, Patterson, N.Y. 12563. Arrangements are under the care of the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
