PLYMOUTH – Marybeth McLaggan, 51, died June 28, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born June 30, 1953, at Bangor a daughter of Stanley and Mary (Smith) Dunakin Sr., of North Newport. Marybeth attended Newport schools and graduated from nursing school. She was a U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps veteran. While working as a nurse she had great compassion for her patients and their families. In 2001, she was the recipient of the Veteran’s Administration Secretary’s Hands and Heart award. She was most recently employed at the Sebasticook Health Care Facility in Pittsfield and the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor. On July 22, 1999, she married Royce W. McLaggan. Marybeth enjoyed working in her flower garden and taking evening drives with her husband. She also enjoyed fishing and hunting. In addition to her husband of Plymouth, she is survived by three sons, John Brown of Seattle, Wash., Shawn Brown of Spain, and Joseph Brown of Georgia; two stepsons, Randy McLaggan of Plymouth and Ronnie McLaggan of South China; and a stepdaughter, Tiffany McLaggan of Detroit; five sisters, Barbara (Oliver) Metz of New Jersey, Margaret (Oliver) Martineau of Florida, Beverly (Oliver) Jenkins of Connecticut, Sandi (Dunakin) Counselman of Florida, and Sharon (Dunakin) Pelletier of Florida; a brother, Stanley Dunakin Jr. of Florida. She was predeceased by brothers, Neil and Richard Oliver. A graveside committal service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at Detroit Village Cemetery, with Pastor Al H. Worden, officiating.
