ELLSWORTH – Mark Arthur Gantnier, 44, formerly of Sherman, passed away Oct. 23, 2007, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. The son of Joseph and Kathleen Gantnier, he was born July 20, 1963, in Houlton. He was a member of the Army Corp of Engineers, where he proudly served as a Medic. He was predeceased by his parents, Kathleen and Joseph Gantnier, and Ralph Roy; and sister, Mary E. McDonald. He is survived by two children, Amy and Ken; his mother, Betty Roy of Sherman; his siblings, Lorraine Ray of Sherman, Linda Wood of Gardiner, Mass., Noreen Comeau of Leeds, Rita Chasse of East Millinocket, Mona Qualey of Benedicta, Will-iam Gantnier of Wilton, N.H., Peter Gantnier of Ames, Neb., Roger Roy of Sherman, Carol Gantnier of Cross City, Fla., and Sarah Lander of Dedham; and longtime companion, Wendy . A private service was held Oct. 25 at Acadia Burial and Cremation Direct, Mount Desert. He will be laid to rest at St. Benedict’s Cemetery, Benedicta, after a memorial.
