CARIBOU – Martin Louis Savage, 83, died May 22, 2004, at a Caribou healthcare faci-lity, after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 22, 1920, at Fort Kent, the son of George W. and Elizabeth (Lahey) Savage. Martin attended Fort Kent Schools and soon after served three years in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war he worked for both the Maine Central and Bangor and Aroostook Railroads. Later he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, working as a postal clerk until his retirement on Aug. 31, 1982. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou, and also was a life member of the Lister-Knowlton Post VFW No. 9389. He is survived by his wife, Annie (Dubay) Savage of Caribou; two sons, Dr. Philip Savage of Bangor, Dr. James Savage and his wife, Frances, of Caribou; two daughters, Nancy Savage of Caribou, Jane Umphrey and her husband, Richard, of Caribou; a brother, Burns Patrick Savage and his wife, Jane, of East Longmeadow, Mass.; one sister, Patricia Rowell and her husband, Bernard, of New Britain, Conn.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Yvette (Caron) Savage, in 1964; by a son-in-law, Corey Solman, in 2003; by two brothers, Gilman Savage, James Savage; and by one sister, Annie Fortier Family and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou, with Father Clement Thibodeau officiating. Interment will be held with Military Honors at the Old Holy Rosary Cemetery, Caribou.
