SAINT GEORGE – Mary Dickson Dennison, 72, a resident of the River Road, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at the Pen Bay Medical Center, Rockport after a brief illness. Mrs. Dennison was born Sept. 11, 1933, in Basking Ridge, N.J., the daughter of William and Doris Craig Schoppe. She was a 1951 graduate of Bernard’s High School in Bernardsville, N.J. After her graduation, she began work as a telephone operator in New Jersey. Mrs. Dennison married her first husband, Ernest E. Dickson September of 1953. An active volunteer, she was a member of the Lebanon Township Fire Department Auxiliary, took many pictures to record events of the town and always had the neighborhood children in her home babysitting them while their parents worked. Mrs. Dennison had summered in Saint George since 1969, always having a love of Maine, which she got from her father, who was born in Machias. Upon her husband’s retirement, they moved to Saint George in 1987. Locally, she was a member of the Ocean View Grange in Saint George, and American Legion Auxiliary. She married her second husband, Robert E. Dennison Oct. 23, 1996. Her family knew her to be a great cook: homemade jams, jellies and bread ‘n butter pickles were her specialty. She also enjoyed photography, animals and tending her flower gardens. She was predeceased by her first husband, Ernest E. Dickson Jr. April 5, 1990. Survivors include her husband, Robert E. Dennison of Saint George; two daughters, Patricia St. Clair and her husband, Leroy, of Saint George, Lori Lee Dickson of Briarcliff, N.Y.; a stepson, Bruce Dennison and his wife, Cathy, of Troy, Va.; a stepdaughter, Julie Hawkinson of Hyde Park, N.Y.; a brother, William C. Schoppe of Jackson, N.J.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the Hall and Bibber Funeral Home, 78 Main St., Thomaston. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 2, at the Thomaston Baptist Church, Thomaston, with the Rev. Wayne Sawyer, officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Hall and Bibber Funeral Home, Thomaston.
