ASBURY PARK, N.J. – Mary Ellen MacKay, Salvation Army major, 63, formerly of Nashua, N.H., was promoted to glory Feb. 4, 2007. She was born Oct. 9, 1943, in Nashua, N.H., daughter of the late Frederick and Doris (Peters) MacKay. Ms. MacKay was a resident of the Salvation Army Retirement Community in Asbury Park, N.J., since July 2002. Her career with the Salvation Army led her to many appointments including Worcester, Mass., Plymouth, Mass., Salem, Mass., Revere, Mass., Waltham, Mass., Leominster, Mass., and Augusta, culminating in her honorable retirement in Asbury Park, N.J. Ms. MacKay worked at various places in Nashua, N.H., the last being Nashua Gas Service as an accountant. She entered The Salvation Army School For Officers Training in Suffern, N.Y., in September 1974 and was ordained a Salvation Army officer in June 1976. She served for 29 years and entered honorable retirement on April 5, 2005. Mary Ellen graduated from Nashua High School in June 1961. Survivors include her two brothers and two sisters-in-law, David S. and Mary E. MacKay of Bangor and Vernon, N.H., and Mariellen MacKay of Nashua, N.H.; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Raymond Livingston of Webster, Mass.; an uncle, Wayne Peters and his wife, Rosemary, of Manchester, N.H.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The Davis Funeral Home in Nashua, N.H., is in charge of the arrangements.
