ST. JOHN PLANTATION – Mary Jane Berube, 69, died Jan. 23, 2004, at a Bangor hospital, after a short illness. She was born Nov. 14, 1934, in St. John Plantation, the daughter of Antoine and Annie (Keaton) Berube. Mary Jane graduated from Fort Kent Community High School in 1953, and upon the death of her mother, Annie, in 1957, she remained at the homestead to take over the daily takes of raising her younger siblings and to nurture her father along. She took over her mother’s duties and unselfishly dedicated her life to her family. Mary Jane was also very devoted to her little St. John Plantation. She saved all clippings on births, anniversaries, special occasions and deaths of her neighbors and friends and friend’s friends. She will be sadly missed by her family. She is survived by three sisters, Beatrice Gendreau of Millinocket, Elise Ouellette of Meriden, Conn., and Emily Jandreau of St. John Plantation; one brother, Joseph Albert Berube of Presque Isle; and special nephew, Bernard Berube of Plainville, Conn., who she raised as a son; and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Vinnie and Antoine Jr.; and two sisters, Gertrude and Emma. At her request, Mary Jane will be cremated and there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. There will be a committal service this spring in the St. John Catholic Cemetery, St. John Plantation. The day and time will be announced in May. Funeral arrangements are being conducted by the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, 14 East Main St., Fort Kent.
