CARIBOU and FORT FAIRFIELD – Mary Jane Russell, 76, beloved wife of the late Garth S. Russell, died Dec. 9, 2003, at a Caribou healthcare facility, after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Ola and Zella (Carson) Cogswell. She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School and a 1946 graduate of Bryant College. She and Garth raised their two sons in Fort Fairfield, and moved to Caribou in 1974. She was employed at Maine Public Service for 22 years. Mary Jane was a member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church in Caribou. She was active in the United Methodist Women, Jenny Lyons Circle, and served on many church committees. She was a Past Matron of the Former Good Will Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Lunar Chapter and Elizabeth Chapter at the time of her death. Mary Jane was also active in the Caribou Day Extension. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Brown; a brother, Vaughn Cogswell Sr. Mrs. Russell is survived by two sons, Thomas Russell and his wife, Sonia, of Veazie, Peter Russell of Meredith, N.H.; a granddaughter, Kathryn Russell of Meredith, N.H., a student at the University of New Hampshire; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, corner of Prospect and Sweden streets, Caribou, with the Rev. Lynne Josselyn officiating. Friends may call at the church from 12 noon until the time of services. Spring interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of fellowship with refreshments sponsored by the Jenny Lyons Circle will be held at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church reception area immediately following the funeral service.
