SOLON – Mary Louise McDonough, wife of the late Leland J. McDonough, passed away peacefully Feb. 28, 2006, at her home in Solon. She was born Oct. 7, 1906, in Newton, Mass., the daughter of Bernard and Louise (Walsh) Donnelly. She was a graduate of Newton High School, Class of 1924 and Boston University, Class of 1929. She married Leland McDonough in Boston, Mass. July 5, 1941. While residing in Solon, she served on various town committees, including Coolidge Library and the Town Planning Board. As Solon’s oldest resident, Mary was the holder of the Boston Post Gold Headed Cane. Her passion was children and education. Mary is survived by four sons, Leland B. McDonough and wife, Linda, of Beverly, Mass., Halsey W. McDonough of Gardiner, James B. McDonough and wife, Barbara, of West Newbury, Mass. and William L. McDonough and companion, Sandra, of Bangor; also three grandchildren, Brian, Marie and Catherine. At her request there will be no visiting hours. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 6, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Bingham. Donations can be made in memory of Mary to Coolidge Library, P.O. Box 238, Solon, ME 04979. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., Bingham.
