OLD TOWN – Mary “Elaine” Brown, 81, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Alton, Jan. 7, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 4, 1924, in Old Town. She resided at her home on French Island for 52 years. Mary was a past member of the grange, the VFW women’s auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, camping, pickling and canning, picking berries and fiddleheading. She also liked to crochet, knit, garden and paint ceramics. She loved coastal visits with family and friends. She is survived by her children, Roseann (Brown) and Dennis Grant of Milford, Maryann T. (Brown) Goodin of Alton, Thomas Brown of Old Town, Louis Brown, Suzanne (Brown) and Jerry Camp, Carolyn (Brown) and Jeffrey Rash, all of Tyler, Texas; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Stella Clark, Yvonne Dennis, Theresa Carr, Alice Treadwell and Francis Vaillancourt. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Lewis G. Brown; and four brothers and one sister. A Memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at The Holy Family Parish, Old Town. Spring burial in Alton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of St. Joseph, 900 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401.
