MARY R. PHILLIPS SOUTH PORTLAND – Mary R. Phillips, 82, formerly of McKinley Street, South Portland, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at a Falmouth Nursing Home. Mary was born in Bangor, a daughter of Arthur F. and Amy Marie Martin Rice. Mary was educated in the Bangor School and graduated from Bangor High School. She attended Harcum Jr. College in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and was a graduate of Stoneleigh College in Rye Beach, N.H. She was a member of the Willowdale Women’s Golf Association in Scarborough. During World War II, she was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. She was a self-employed bookkeeper having worked for many different companies in the Greater Portland area. She retired in 2001 after 25 years of service. She was predeceased by her husband, George E. Phillips in 1999. Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey C. Robertson of Rochester, N.Y., and Jamie R. Robertson of Wayland, Mass.; a daughter, Bonnie M. Smith of Yarmouth; a sister, Evelyn Grant of Florida and Maine; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. At Mary’s request there will be no visiting hours or funeral services. Arrangements are by the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
