WILLISTON, Vt. and CARIBOU – MaryDawn (Chapman) Freme died Jan. 25, 2004, following a long illness. She was born June 13, 1931, in Caribou, to Kathleen (McInnis) and Vyron Chapman. MaryDawn grew up as the oldest child in a farming family and graduated from Caribou High School in 1948. She worked as a bookkeeper and stenographer, and participated in local pageants and hometown celebrations. In 1951, she married Miles G. Freme, also of Caribou. MaryDawn joined the Roman Catholic Church in 1949, and belonged to several Catholic parishes in the suburban communities where she and her husband raised their three children. She shared her life-long love of reading by volunteering at book fairs. MaryDawn was an avid collector with a great appreciation for the decorative arts. In 1981, she became a grandmother, and enjoyed passing on family history and her political views in a frankly amusing style. MaryDawn worked for IBM in Essex Junction, Vt., and in Charlotte, N.C. She received several awards of excellence before retiring in 1990. MaryDawn moved back to Vermont in 1996, after the death of her husband, Miles, in 1995. She resided in Williston Woods and belonged to the local widow’s Group. MaryDawn was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Vyron Chapman; and her sister, Charlotte (Chapman) St. Peter. She is survived by her sister, Ada (Chapman) Plourde of Stockholm; her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Robert Gere of Katy, Texas, and Jane and David Harrington of Barre, Vt.; her son, Miles F. Freme of Essex Junction, Vt.; her granddaughter, Katie Harrington of Dover, N.H.; and her grandson, Michael Harrington of Washington, D.C.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou. Visiting hours are 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou.
